The following page is the guidelines all employees of Phase, Inc. follow in their daily routine. They are to help each of the employees to improve the quality of work being performed.
All items fabricated at Phase, Inc. have a first piece inspection policy on all operations. This is performed by a designated checker.
Unless specified by the Customer, we use manufacturer's instructions for our guidelines.
I . Incoming Material

II. Shearing
sheet is measured before starting
blank size is figured, then checked by a checker

III. Punching
new program - 100% inspection
existing program - check revision
first piece inspection for hole size and location for a new program
IV. Notching, Countersinking, Tapping, Forming
first piece inspection for each of these operations
V. Sanding
parts to have only an iridite finish are grained with 180 grit
parts to be painted are grained with a 220 grit
front panels to be engraved are jitter bugged
All prints are checked for direction of grain and grit specified by customer. Special instructions are checked.
VI. Conversion Coating - MIL-C-5541 Process, both Class lA and Class3, also RoHS compliant.
parts are placed in etch tank for 1 to 5 minutes
clear water rinse for 1 to 5 minutes
deoxidizer tank for 1 to 5 minutes using an up an down motion
clear water rinse for 1 to 5 minutes using up and down motion
iridite tank, using Metalast TCP-HF, for 1 to 2 minutes
final clear water rinse
hang parts for drying
Phosphate tank - used for steel pieces
Parts are put into phosphate tank for 5 minutes
Parts are then put into clear water rinse for 30 seconds
Degreaser for aluminum only
parts are put into degreaser for 5 minutes
parts are then put into clear rinse for 30 seconds
VII. Installation of Hardware Assembly
Fasteners are ordered per Customer's Instructions are specifications.
Fasteners are checked upon receipt to assure proper item.
Install hardware per manufacturer's instructions or best shop practice is to be used for assembly if any parts, unless otherwise specified by the Customer.
VIII. Welding
Federal Standard MIL-W-8604A will be used as our guidelines unless Customer specifies some other instructions.
IX. Painting
Custom Colors: To be inspected upon receipt of paint. A 2 x 4 chip is painted and compared with the sample furnished by Customer. This is a non textured smooth finish.
MIL. STD. Colors: Checked against the Mil-Std. chips on file.
Paints shall be mixed to manufacturer's specifications. Parts will be painted per costumer's specification. If there are no instructions they will be painted using best practices available to us.X. Silkscreening
Performed per drawing instructions. Artwork revision level to be checked. %100 inspection is part of normal operation. Care is to be given that all characters are as legible as permitted.
Customer furnished screens need to be inspected each time for any defects. The customer is to be notified of any defects.
Paint should be allowed to air cure or be force cured per manufacturer’s specifications.
XI. Installing Hardware after Painting and/ or Silkscreening
Extra Care is to be taken to avoid any marking of the finished surface.
Silkscreening is again inspected prior to installation of hardware.
XII. Machine Shop
All programs to be checked for proper revision levels.
First piece inspection for each operation performed in machine shop.
XIII. Plating
Parts are to be wrapped adequately before being sent to the plater to ensure the best possible finish.
Quality of finish to be checked before any further operation is performed on plated parts.
XIV. Inspection20% of all parts are inspected to drawing specifications. Visual check is done on the balance of the items. Painted parts are inspected at 100% for dirt, lint, fisheyes, etc. Color is checked per customer chip or mil-std-595 color chip. Texture check per customer chip or Phase, Inc. Standard. Quantity is to be within the customer’s specification of overruns. Parts to be packed for shipment with adequate protection to insure parts will not be damaged.
